Games/Craft Information:

CIA – maze

Flappy/Sucky Frogs – two teams, half team at each end of the hall.  First person must ‘flap’ their green frog down to the next person in their team who flaps it back etc…  Alternatively – suck a frog up using a straw and run down the other end…

Musical Lily-pads – play music – when music stops everyone must get on a newspaper lily-pad.  Remove a lily-pad each time – Joeys ‘care and share’…

Grow mung beans (bean sprouts) – give each joey a shallow tray, cover the bottom with cotton wool or tissue, sprinkle on a layer of mung beans and spray the whole lot to moisten.  Put in a warm place (window ledge) make sure it doesn’t dry out but don’t drown it either!!

Explain about the root coming out of the seed first, then the shoot and finally the leaf on top.

Draw a plant – give each joey a strip of plain paper, marked into 3 sections.  Discuss what part of a plant is found underground.  Joeys draw roots (thin straggly roots, carrots or big tap root?) on the bottom third of their paper.  Fold the paper back and pass to the next person.  Next part of a plant is the stem – joeys draw the stem of a plant (thin stalk or big tree trunk?) again fold the paper back and pass it on.  What is at the top of a plant, draw a flower or tree or foliage on the top third.  Pass along and now look at your plant!

Craft – Wide Mouth Frog – see below

Making colours – pour water and a splash of milk into a plate.  Drop yellow and red food colouring onto the milk.  Using a toothpick dipped in detergent touch the surface of the milk to mix the colours.  What colour do you get? Orange (last week).  Now do plates with yellow and blue food colour – mix together you get green (this week).

Recycle Race – Leave a pile of rubbish in the middle of the hall.  # boxes at one end (red – rubbish, Yellow – recycle, green – green waste).  Each Joey in turn runs up and collects a rubbish item and puts it in the correct ‘waste bin’.  At the end check if they are correct!

SPARE: Green thumbs whacky story and animal trail with picture of an Australian animal and their tracks.
