CUB CAPERS

MY TIME AT CUBS by Alex C,  aged 8 1/2

At cubs we have lots of fun. We play games, go on adventures and we even
go camping! Some of the things have done are going hiking in the Field of Mars Reserve, helping with Landcare at Lake Macquarie and visiting a Tram Museum.

Since I joined cubs I have completed lots of badges, such as my musicians and entertainment level 2 badges, where I had to play my violin and sing in front of the cub pack.

I have also have my swimmers level 1 badge. We all went to Hawk Eye's back yard pool to do this – it was very cold but good fun. The other badges I have done are my conservation badge when I learned lots about protecting animals
and plants, and also my bronze boomerang. This is an important badge and
I had to learn lots of things like tying knots, first aid, how to keep
safe at home and in the bush and helped at Clean Up Australia Day.

I recently finished canoeing level 1 and took part in the Sirius cup canoe
races. Next I will work on my space badge. The badges look cool on my uniform!

At Easter we went on Family Camp to Mitchell Camp. I helped to set up our tent and every night we had a camp fire and One-Tonner told us lots of scary stories around the fire! I also learned to canoe properly but I got very muddy. The best bit was when One Tonner connected 2 boats called Sparks and Heath together and put a motor on the back, but the motor was very old and broke down! While we were at camp the Easter Bunny came and we had a Easter egg hunt and it was easy to find the eggs even though it was dark because we had torches.

Cub pack meetings are lots of fun as we play games like chair soccer and spotlight, where you have to keep away from the light beam. We also talk about Baden Powell and the cub law and promise and sometimes we do craft as well. Last week we made rocky road cake which was yummy!

Cubs is GREAT FUN!

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY 2009

by Nicole M, age 9.

My mum and I went to clean up Australia. We took our gloves and we went to the Scout hall. There were other cubs waiting. After a short time we signed a form and we put on our gloves.

As we started to clean up the Field of Mars we only had few things in the recycled and rubbish bags. Then we filled up two bags very quickly and then we returned back to the Scout hall for an ice-block.

I was very proud of myself for taking part in clean up Australia and getting a certificate.
